⌈ CHARACTER SECTION ⌉

Character: Warrior of Light
Age: 24
Canon: Dissidia Final Fantasy
Canon Point: after Cosmos is killed by Chaos and the heroes fall into darkness

Background: Wiki background + typed up background

( !! ) I've typed up his background/history to make this a little easier because in order to get the WHOLE PICTURE you honestly need to read through about 5 different wikis. That said, I'm still linking his wiki as well.

Personality:

If you've ever played the very first Final Fantasy back in the 80's (or even the re-releases for the PSP) and thought to yourself, boy, I wonder who this guy without a name is that's the warrior/leader of my party, well, you're in luck my friend! Because here he is, the quintessential hero of Dissidia Final Fantasy: Warrior of Light.

Speaking of...

the quintessential hero
A paragon of virtue and radiance, Warrior, despite his lack of a name, is the hero of heroes and leader of the warriors of Cosmos. As a protector of the light, it calls to him and he to it, allowing it to both guide and provide him with strength when against darkness. Despite his lack of memories prior to the conflict, he understands what Cosmos embodies as the goddess of harmony and light and will do absolutely whatever it takes to protect her and his comrades, working together towards the same goal: to end the conflict between Chaos and Cosmos.

As the leader of the heroes for Cosmos, you might initially think of him as the strongest. But, maybe to your surprise, he is not the strongest of the heroes yet still remains the leader. Why? Because a leader is not the strongest, but the wisest. The lengths to which he goes in order to protect the light- to end the never ending cycles of conflict, the decisions made, the paths taken, the absolute faith and hope that he has for his comrades which can even surpass what Cosmos feels... all show how unwavering his resolve can be and how willing he is to do absolutely whatever it takes, even if his body breaks in the end.

calm, determined, emotionally resilient
Now, one can't be the so-called hero of heroes without being a rather focused and righteous individual and Warrior is exactly that from the get-go. Even without any memories prior to his waking within the world of Dissidia, he knows that he must protect Cosmos and defeat Chaos and his minions alongside the other heroes that are summoned to this world to take part in this never ending battle.

Calm is an understatement when it comes to Warrior and if you're one to try and get a rise out of people? Don't think you should bother with him. In fact, he's done that dance before countless times with villains trying to sway his faith in his comrades and get under his skin. Want to know how Warrior handles that? He shrugs it off. Really. That or more or less tells you that you're wasting your time and that he won't let such petty attempts at manipulation distract him. There's very little that really seems to shake Warrior at his core and that might make one think that he could possibly be considered emotionless. But that is not the case. It's simply that his resolve to finish his task at hand- to be so focused on whatever mission he's on is extremely difficult to crack. This is mostly due to his lack of emotional baggage that he carries what with not having any memories of his own prior to the conflict and so, there's not really much in terms of insecurities to pick at and try and taunt him with. You can try, of course, but you'd probably have better luck going head-to-head with him in a sword fight than getting him to crack under your attempts at making him feel insecure. It's just... not going to happen, sorry.

Of course, the only one who can possibly, maybe, sort of at times get under his skin or at the very least have Warrior feel confused towards is Garland (Dissidia/Final Fantasy I) but that's because of complicated history they have between each other namely surrounding Garland knowing who Warrior is.

tough decisions, focused but caring
Oh, the crappy part about being a leader but someone's got to do it. Sometimes these need to be made and Warrior is not afraid to make them even if others might not agree with whatever he decides. Agreeing to let Kain (Final Fantasy IV) incapacitate their comrades and spare them death at the hands of the manikins (who are capable of permanently killing the warriors) when it's revealed they can't win the current cycle is a pretty good example of a tough decision to be made. Now, I know, even I was all what in the... at such a decision being made. But Warrior never makes decisions out of malice. As difficult as some of them can be at times, it's done in the best interest of everyone and those he feels a responsibility towards even if it may come off as a little extreme. Now, that's not to say that his decisions can't be swayed as Lightning (Final Fantasy XIII) refused that option and instead suggested to take out a rift and help their odds. Despite his feeling that they would die by doing so, Warrior agreed to it, though didn't go along with the team. So, compromise? Yes, he has those skills and he's more than willing to listen and consider another alternative should one be presented to him.

Being able to make tough decisions adds to just how focused Warrior is to the cause of protecting the light and Cosmos. He takes this very seriously and isn't about to give up regardless of how many times he may end up dying. In fact, while others may find the conflict tiring and endless, Warrior persists and doesn't falter from his path to achieving his goal: defeating Chaos and bringing harmony back to the light. It's this focus- his unwavering resolve that can at times seem almost maddening with just how far he's willing to go. He won't let anything or anyone stand in his way, cut down countless enemies until his body finally breaks, and sacrifice himself over and over again if it means getting one step closer to victory. This focus of his could even very well be partly why he's so fearless in his endeavors. He shows no signs of worry when faced with an opponent, even when outnumbered, and charges head in first with his comrades laying back a little. He doesn't hesitate to act once his mind is set on something and will do whatever it takes to achieve his goal.

That includes protecting his comrades- his friends and Warrior, while perhaps coming off as a very stern leader at times, is very loyal and protective of them. Now, he's not about to go around handing out Valentine's cards or wearing any matching best friends forever necklaces. That's just... not his style. The way in which Warrior shows that he cares is through actions more than words. He doesn't think twice about coming to the aid of a comrade who's been injured by an enemy, taking their place and fighting on their behalf nor does he have any qualms about approaching a comrade and ensuring that they're capable of handling themselves on their own rather than keep with the group. He's even the type to sit there in silence with you and simply be there. He supports those with their decisions, even if he may not agree with it entirely but is willing to let them do it their way while knowing that they have his support should they need it. He's willing to die for those he considers his friends and doesn't even bat an eye at the thought of losing his own life on behalf of theirs. To Warrior, they are just as much his strength as Cosmos is and it's their belief in him that helps him become the strong and righteous warrior that he does.

noble? old-fashioned? so... boring?
Before we get ourselves carried away here with any of this or even look at it negatively, Warrior, is by no means, boring. Life of the party? No, not even close. But! The guy hasn't really had much of a life or experienced anything outside of combat, so give him a break, yeah?

So, noble. What do you think of when you hear the word noble? A knight in shining armor, right? Not too far from what Warrior looks like then, guess he nailed that. But when I say noble, I don't exactly mean his appearance. It's more in the way that he carries himself and also heavily in his speech. Slang? No, he would never. He's a little more close to being poetic with his words at times but by no means is Shakespeare or anything of the sort. This then carries over into the whole old-fashioned trope of his. Which, in all honesty, could very well tie into just how seriously he takes his duties when it comes to Cosmos and protecting the light. He is the type to bow before royalty, hold doors open for those who go before him, even drape his cape over a puddle so the lady doesn't get her shoes wet. Honestly, he would probably even ask your father to have permission to marry you if that were to ever come up, wouldn't put it past Warrior.

Now, I know. Gee, sounds boring. Does he even have a sense of humor? Well... it's there. Warrior's lack of a past that he can actively remember makes him prone to being a little... shall we say... socially awkward? Humor and jokes have a tendency to go over his head at times. But wait! That doesn't mean he doesn't laugh or find humor in things. He does, he even smiles! It just might take him a minute or two to catch on to what exactly it is you're saying and unless it's obvious enough that he can see what you're saying right away, just give him a minute and it'll click. This of course usually has others claim that he needs to "lighten up" a little but, again, it simply ties in with how serious he can take things at first and really just needs to find the need to relax.

intimidating? maybe but... not really
Here's the thing about Warrior: he has a certain sort of presence about him. Call it noble, call it knightly, call it heroic, whatever. But intimidating? Well, to some it can come off that way. Warrior is very calm and focused a lot of the time, even when he doesn't have a certain task at hand. Being the leader of Cosmos' warriors, he can sometimes have that sort of authoritative air about him which can lead him to being held in high regards by many, including his peers. He's not the jokester of the group, he's not one to slack off and take super long breaks, he's not even the cheerleader that's rooting for everyone on his team. He's calm, he's focused, he's the leader and he is not about to let his comrades down. Now does that make him unapproachable because he's standing there off to the side with arms crossed and watching everyone to make sure they're safe? No, it doesn't. In fact, he actually prefers the company of others (especially comrades) as opposed to being alone since the mind tends to wander when one is alone in their thoughts for too long. That doesn't mean he's not about to do something solo if he has to, but, he's not exactly going out of his way to avoid people basically. In fact, he's more than willing to have a friendship of sorts provided you can accept him for who and how he is as he will do the same for you.

So, intimidating? Hardly. It's more like he just needs a helpful little nudge in the come and play with us department and he's more than willing to go along with it once you take his hand. Metaphorically... but you could also literally hold his hand and drag him with you, too. Prishe has done it, so, knock yourself out.

silent knight ( behind the warrior )
With all of that being said, you might be wondering just what exactly could possibly get under his skin. For a guy who lacks emotional baggage due to his not remembering anything from a childhood to parents to siblings to even what happened before he woke to the conflict, he seems pretty invincible in the emotional department hence the whole difficult to manipulate thing. Except for exactly that... he has no memories of a past life, a name, parents, nothing and it's the very thing that he usually keeps to himself... especially when it concerns how much that actually bothers him.

Prishe is someone who first allowed the Warrior to open up about this... and yeah, that's a good thing. Sure, at first he claimed he didn't really care if he couldn't remember anything and that so long as he fights, he has a use and purpose with this existence of his. But it's the arguments from Prishe about how there's so much more to life than that, how emotions are important and that he should draw strength from them that really gets to the Warrior and it even sticks with him in the other cycles. So maybe we can blame Prishe for this? Possibly. But you know what? It's a good thing for him to think about and despite it not being the greatest of things to have to admit or remind ones self of the whole hey, I can't remember my name or past, the fact that he was at least able to remember those lessons and words of hers even with his own memories of Prishe swept away from him... it's probably one of the best things that happened to him in giving him an identity and not letting him become a mindless puppet.

So in saying that...

How do you think it makes a person feel to be surrounded by others who are beginning to recall their memories while it's just a continuous blank slate for you? It's liable to make you wonder what might be wrong with you, question just who it is you actually are (doesn't help when Garland teases about this), have you even feel insecure about your own identity that you barely know yourself. But, he's the leader of Cosmos' warriors and he's seen as someone who needs to remain firm, strong, focused and not allow distraction to sway him. So he keeps those thoughts to himself a lot of the time. Now, is that healthy? Probably not. Will he never talk to anyone about his concerns over his lack of memories and not even knowing who he is? No, he'll give little bits and pieces here and there, especially when asked for his name if he can't get around just not answering that. It's just something that he doesn't make conversation about unless it's typically brought up somehow because, while the Warrior is not one to typically hide things, it's more like you never asked, so I never said anything.

The only other thing which could be taken as a weakness for the Warrior is his lack of experience with life itself outside of combat and, in saying that, a lack of things such as love and affection. To be loved and love another... that's not exactly anything he's had experience with despite his understanding what that is. He knows to protect the light, he fights for it and those who are aligned with it, he's absolutely willing to die for it and those he considers friends. But for anyone to die for him? Why would you ever? Things such as affection, warmth, to really be tied to someone in ways that could drown a person with so much feeling... he's never had that- felt that before and while it's a little sad to think, it's not something that he is incapable of learning regardless of what some people Garland might say or think. The fact that Prishe was able to stir emotions within him to begin with to the point where he comes to care for his comrades and wants to remember them after this is all over shows that he's capable of learning and feeling, it just takes him some time and with his comrades accepting him despite that, it has the Warrior slowly learning to feel these things.

the end
So you're probably thinking wow, this guy is such a goody two shoes and, honestly? You'd be right about that, I can't even try and swing it any other way. That's really what he is at the core. Grandma needs help crossing the road? Done. Need a kitten saved from a tree? He's already up there. He fights on behalf of the light, he protects those who are weak and the darkness tries to destroy, he defends his comrades and never runs away from a fight even if it's him against five hundred enemies. The amount of hope that is buried within him for the light and everything good is so ridiculously bright that it's honestly no wonder he's referred to as the Warrior of Light. Honestly, if you could see his soul, you would probably be blinded by how bright it is. Despite his lack of memories prior to the conflict or even having had much experience outside of combat itself, Warrior is never one to stray from the path of the light or abandon those he considers his friends. If anything, the strength that he receives from his comrades and their willingness to accept him despite his being different from them has made him into the hero that he is, the leader of Cosmos' warriors, the Warrior of Light.

Abilities:
Warrior is exactly what he sounds like... a warrior and he's also a rather skilled swordsman with the typical qualities that one possesses in order to be a leader to others. He is also knowledgeable in tending to wounds (though not a healer) and using various swords in combat. In terms of magic, he's rather limited with what he is capable of doing (seeing how he's not a mage or anything) though he does have some magical abilities with the stronger ones typically being associated with his weapons.

RADIANT SWORD
A summon of six swords of light that are fired at the opponent from different angles.

SHINING WAVE
Sends a wave of light towards an opponent when sword is swung.

SHIELD OF LIGHT
Sends out a burst of energy in the form of a shield to block attacks.

BLUE FANG
A summon of small ice shards that can be used to attack an opponent.

RED FANG
A summon of a fireball that can be shot towards an opponent.

WHITE FANG
A summon of lightning bolts that can attack an opponent.

CURE
Fully recovers health.

CURAGA
Fully recovers health of party members.

RAISE
Revives a party member with 20% health.

Alignment:
As the Warrior of Light, Warrior is going to align with... Peromei! Is anyone really surprised with this? Though the point in time in which he was pulled from was filled with much despair for him, as someone who fights to protect the light and all those who are children of it, it's that unwavering resolve of his and that bright light of hope within him that makes him best suited for Peromei.

Other:
With Shinryu not being the puppet master of this world, Warrior is going to retain some of his memories upon arrival. Anything to do with his name, who he is, where he's from, previous cycles, or even Prishe will still remain lost to him unless somehow regained at some point by whatever means. though recalling Prishe might cause him some intense heartache if that ever happens.
